Will remote control garage door openers sold at hardware or home stores work on older garage doors?
Our remote was broken when we bought our house 15 yrs ago and the house is 30 yrs old.. I’ve seen them advertised in stores but not sure if they would work. (We have a roll up style garage door.)
Clarification on the type: It rolls up in sections & sits on a track overhead when it’s open.. The remote opener is broken & we need a new one. It’s probably 25-30 Yrs. old. Would the remotes sold now work for older doors?

It’s hard to say for sure based on the wording of the question but I believe you are asking if a standard trolley garage door opener (like those sold in stores) will work on your door which rolls up into a barrel shape – similar to those found in commercial applications or on storage buildings. If this is what you are asking then, unfortunately, no. These openers are made to work on sectional doors which lift up and sit in tracks overhead. Barrel doors (as some people call them) take a different type of opener which can only be purchased from a professional door dealer. It is made to mount to the side of the door and run off of the shaft.
If I have misunderstood your question, please provide me with a little more info and I’ll try again!
Hope this helps!
ok
No not on the roll up style.
I am familiar with most old remote controls, at least in the USA and USA imports. Sort of a hobby seeing my work is garage door and openers. Just email me or post the make, model and age of unit. Pics would help too. If I have one I would just give it to you for postage. I could also help you fix your old one if you have it. (also free) I like to see the old stuff still working.
